Thanks for the article. I'll give it a shot with your settings. In hindsight I should have spent the $300 more to get a Mac monitor. I wished Dell would come out with a proper Mac color profile.

I've been playing around with this for hours. So far I've just got frustrated. I still like my 2408 but for the money sometimes I think I should've just got a 27" iMac. Even though they have that horribly reflective gloss finish their screens do like nice.

Anyhow I've had enough. I know my settings aren't right but I'll just have to leave them there.

This is incredibly helpfull. Thank you so much for posting it. The setings I came up with are different but I susspect it will be slightly different for everyone so I won't post my settings here and simply say this technique is the best.

Don't waste your time and energy calling Dell about this they are cluless. If you can't apply this then run out and get a calibrating device. Good luck to all.

This article definitely helped me out, because I was a little ticked I had this expensive monitor that looked like junk. Anyways, I ended up with these settings:

Brightness: 10
Contrast: 97
Preset: Custom (R: 90, G: 90, B: 90)

I tried lower settings on the colors, but when I did that, my white was grey, and everything looked muddy. If I brought them up higher, everything was washed out. At 90, the white on my monitor, matched the white of the OSD.

Hi, I had this same problem but after a lot of trial and error I finally figured it out... with the help of an i1Display2.

It's too long to write here, but in summary here's what I did:

1. Lowered the RGB colors to 50.
2. Selected Gamma: Mac and Color Setting Mode: Graphics.
3. Lowered Brightness to 50.
4. Ran the i1Display2 in Advanced mode with the following settings:
White Point: 6500k
Gamma: 2.2
Luminance: 120

At the end I finished with the following values:
Contrast: 100
Brightness: 50
Red: 51
Green: 47
Blue: 49

I've made several prints and the colour is very close. I've re-calibrated a few times since then and the only change I've done in months is reduce Red to 50 and Blue to 48.

I posted what I did in my blog if you're interested... http://shutterstation.com/2009/02/22/color-management-calibrating-a-dell-2408wfp-ultrasharp-24-display/

Thanks so much for your post. I am using the monitor for digital photography and found that flesh colors turned out red - initially. I used the settings you suggested and was relieved to find an improvement in the Dell 2408 settings. However, it's not perfect.

Have you been able to refine your settings further?

Thanks again,
Cliff
